Create a patched ESX ISO 5.5 / 5.5 U1

People have been asking for a patched ESX 5.5 / 5.5 U1 ISO / installer / upgrade CD.

A patched ISO is useful for new patched deployments and upgrades and patching without VUM or command line.

The good news is you can create your own patched ESX ISO 5.5 / 5.5 U1 in about 2 minutes.

Download & Install the latest vSphere PowerCLI https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/get-download?downloadGroup=PCLI550R2

Download the ESX 5.5 or 5.5 U1 Patch https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/patch#search

ESXi 5.5 U1 ESXi ESXi550-201404401 http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=2076121

ESXi 5.5 ESXi ESXi550-201404420 http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2076589

Run the vSphere PowerCli

Add-EsxSoftwareDepot C:\Downloads\ESXi550-201404001.zip

Get-EsxImageProfile | select Name

“The command above will show the ESXi images ie Standard or no-tools”

Export-EsxImageProfile ESXi-5.5.0-20140404001-standard -ExportToISO -FilePath C:\Downloads\ESXi-5.5.0-20140404001-standard.iso

Your new ISO will compile and you are ready for new install patched install or upgrade to patch your host.

PowerCLI Initialize Error

* If you get an error about powerclientenvironment.ps1 cannot be loaded

Run as administrator and run Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

Answer Yes  and you should be good
